Hello everybody, this is my first post in the PK cards blog. I have created this blog to publicize my hobby of collecting sports (mostly baseball) cards, and also my collection of signed memorabilia, which is gotten through TTM and IP autographs. I have collected baseball cards since I was 5 years old, but am starting to get more into it at my older age. Hope you enjoy the site!
After spending much of last night watching box breaking videos, I headed to Target this morning to get my fix of pack opening for the day. I enjoy buying cards at Target, because they have an interesting selection, for a reasonable price, and have had some success pulling cards there before. I picked up approximately 20$ worth of cards, including a 2011 Topps Jumbo Pack, a three-pack 2010 Bowman Chrome combo, and one of their mystery four pack combo deals.
Here's what I pulled:
2011 Topps Jumbo Pack
------------------------
Base Cards
#22 Barry Zito
#33 Max Scherzer
#45 Hunter Pence
#46 Hong Chih Kuo
#48 Andrew Cashner
#67 Vladimir Guerrero
#86 Carlos Silva
#87 Daniel Descalso RC
#101 Gregor Blanco
#147 Jon Niese
#161 Chicago White Sox
#184 Brandon Morrow
#188 Pablo Sandoval
#200 Ichiro
#206 Chase Headley
#211 Adam Dunn
#218 Victor Martinez
#221 Scott Hairston
#222 Matt Lindstrom
#229 Jonathan Sanchez
#235 AL ERA League Leaders (Hernandez, Buchholz, Price)
#265 John Danks
#266 Rickie Weeks
#274 Michael Brantley
#284 Reid Brignac
#303 Emilio Bonifacio
#307 Alex Rios
#308 Ian Desmond
Eh, I really don't care what base cards I get, but these aren't really anything great. The one rookie was Descalso, who I hadn't even heard of, but I guess he's decently young and could be a pretty solid player. Now, for the rest:
TT-21 Starlin Castro (Topps Town)
60YOTLC-3 Mickey Mantle (60 Years of Topps, 1954 Topps Card #251)
60YOTLC-59 Albert Pujols (60 Years of Topps, 2010 Topps Card #100)
CMGR-22 Mel Ott (1933 Goudey)
T60-47 Nolan Ryan (Topps 60- Most Career No, One and Two Hitters)
DD-LJ Barry Larkin/Derek Jeter (Diamond Duos)
KG24 Josh Johnson (Champions of Games and Sport Mini)
#154 Marlon Byrd (Platinum Diamond Anniversary)
Again, a bit disappointed with these. The 60 Years of Topps, throwback cards concept is cool, but I'm sure that those cards are still quite common. I got excited at how shiny the Marlon Byrd card was, but then found out those Platinum Diamond cards are in 1-4 packs or something like that.
Next, the 2010 Bowman Chrome Three Packs+Pack of Green Refractors
Base Set:
#83 Clay Buchholz
#103 Kurt Suzuki
#126 Joe Mauer
#191 Travis Wood
1st Bowman Chrome Card:
BCP124 Salvador Perez
BCP149 Zoilo Almonte
BCP201 Ehire Adrianza
Bowman Chrome Team USA
USA-7 Christian Lopes
USA-10 Lance McCullers
Bonus Pack with Green Refractors
BCP113 Josh Donaldson (Green Refractor)
BCP176 Grant Hogue (Green Refractor)
BCP131 Chris Masters (Green Refractor)
I love Bowman Chrome so much that it doesn't matter that I didn't get any hits in this pack, worth about 9 dollars. I was psyched to see Adrianza and Almonte, because they should both be in the Eastern League in the next few years, so I can try to get them signed IP at my Rock Cats games.
Last, was the four "mystery" packs, that cost five dollars combined. I forget which ones I saw on the outside when I bought it, but it came with a 2008 Bowman Chrome, 2008 Topps, 2008 Upper Deck, and 2006 Topps U&H. Despite being not brand new, I thought it was worth my money. Turns out I'd get my best pull in this four pack.
First, the 2008 Bowman Chrome
Checklist
#31 Carlos Delgado
#143 John Smoltz
....and the best card I pulled all day.
BCP254 Jordan Zimmerman RC- Certified Autograph!!!!!
The rest was kind of anticlimactic-
Highlights included:
2008 Upper Deck Starquest SQ-42 Derek Jeter Common
2008 Topps Lance Broadway RC
2008 Upper Deck Nyjer Morgan RC
Not a bad day for about $20 total. I really like the Jordan Zimmerman autograph, hopefully he breaks out and has a good season this year.
Many of these cards will be going out for TTM purposes during spring training soon.
